Xerox just announced that beginning January 1, 2013 it will no longer provide health benefits to people who qualify for Medicare. In 2010, the company stopped providing a subsidy, but news reports say that about 20% of the 15,000 Medicare-eligible retirees still get their coverage through the company.  Earlier this month Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. announced it would drop health care benefits for Medicare-eligible retirees at the end of 2012.

If you find that your Medicare Advantage plan doesn't fit your needs, you may still be able to change to another type of plan. But you need to act quickly, before the Feb. 14 deadline to dis-enroll.

Here's how it works. If you're unhappy with your Medicare Advantage plan you have the following options until Feb. 14 when the dis-enrollment period ends:

You can drop your Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare (Part A and Part B).

If your Medicare Advantage plan had drug coverage, you can sign up for a stand-alone Part D prescription drug plan.

3 Tips About New Medicare Supplement Plans

There are changes underway in Medicare Supplement plans, often called Medigap, beginning June 1, 2010. Here are the two big changes:

1. Two new Medicare Supplement plans - Plan M and Plan N.

2. Four plans will no longer be offered: Plans E, H, I and J.

Now, if you purchase your own Medicare Supplement insurance, here's what you need to know whether you have a policy or will be purchasing a policy for the first time:

1. If you currently have a Medigap plan, you don't have to change anything.

2. If you are purchasing a policy that will be effective after June 1, your choices will be limited to these plans- Plan A, B, C, D F, G, K, L, M, N.

3. If you are interested in purchasing Plan E, H, I or J, you must do it before June 1, 2010.
