Medicare Part B premiums will be the same in 2011 for the majority of Medicare beneficiaries. But those new to medicare or with higher incomes than will be paying a higher monthly premium.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the 2011 Medicare Part A and Part B premium, deductible, and coinsurance amounts to be paid by Medicare beneficiaries. The standard monthly Medicare Part B premium will increase to $115.40 in 201 for those new to Medicare. However, a "hold harmless" provision in the current law protects 73% of beneficiaries from paying the higher rate. These beneficiaries will pay the same $96.40 monthly premium they have paid since 2008.
